Sports Therapy Wirral
Based the West Kirby area of the Wirral, I have been treating patients at my clinic on Banks Road for a number of years. My clients range from local runners to professional athletes.
A large number of my clients are not involved in any type of sport but may have simply injured themselves whilst at work or completing everyday tasks such DIY or tending to the garden. I enjoy working with a variety of clients from different backgrounds and take a lot of satisfaction in helping members of the local community to recover from many longstanding conditions.
Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness, regardless of age and ability.
It utilises the principles of sport and exercise sciences incorporating physiological and pathological processes to prepare the participant for training, competition and where applicable, work.
Sports Therapists are trained to assess and treat both sports and non sports related injuries. A typical assessment would involve asking the client to perform certain movements such as squats, lunges and gait (walking) analysis - as well as any movements you are currently struggling with. This is to enable us to look for any bio-mechanical deficiencies or muscle weaknesses which may be contributing to your condition. If a weakness is identified then this will be further investigated with the intention of getting to the root cause of your problem and not simply 'treating where it hurts'. For older clients or those suffering an acute injury, the assessment will be modified to match your current ability.
My philosophy is find out what is actually causing your pain and treat the underlying cause rather than simply "treating where it hurts". Treating just the area of pain may alleviate the symptoms but it's likely the condition will return in the coming days or weeks unless the underlying cause is firstly identified and then treated appropriately. The aim is to help you get back to function with the intention of keeping you that way and not simply having the injury return. Soft Tissue Therapy is used to help alleviate the pain you are experiencing and targeted rehab exercises are prescribed to ensure any weak areas identified can be strengthened to help ensure the condition does not return.
